Dental Implants – An overview to replacing lost or missing teeth

At Dentists of Tasmania our team of dentists and specialists, work together to provide cost effective Dental Implants …

If you are suffering from tooth loss and looking into Dental Implants to regain the function and aesthetics of your smile, booking a consultation is the very first step on your journey. During your initial consultation our dentists will conduct a thorough assessment of your oral health to ensure your candidacy for dental implants. To be eligible for dental implant surgery you must:

  • Have good general and dental health
  • Be free of gum disease
  • Have a good amount of jawbone material for the implant to fuse with

If you are found to be a suitable candidate for surgery we will then freely give you all details of your proposed treatment…

Once found to be a suitable candidate for dental implant surgery, your dentist will discuss all aspects of the treatment with you including all associated costs, any potential risks or complications, as well as answer any questions you may have. This allows you to make a fully informed decision when considering proceeding with the surgery. We will always go above and beyond throughout all stages of your treatment – before, during and after – so you can achieve the best results possible.

Your dental implant surgery can be conducted in-chair or at a designated hospital…

Dental Implants can be painlessly inserted either under local anaesthesia (in the dental chair) or under general anaesthesia (in the hospital, where the patient is asleep). In either case, excellent pain control prevents soreness and discomfort during the course of your treatment. Once the implant has been inserted into the jawbone, you will need to allow the jaw to heal around the implant – a process called Osseo-integration (full integration with the bone) – for the next 3-6 months. A temporary crown or fixture will be fitted to the implant, be sure not to use this tooth for chewing or biting

Once your healing process is completed successfully we can finish your dental implant treatment…

At the end of this period, once your implant has healed successfully, the permanent crowns or other prosthetic appliances supported by implants are inserted. These implant supported teeth are fully functional and very pleasing aesthetically. Our dental implant restorations look and feel so much like your natural teeth, they are barely distinguishable!
